SERVICES

Lawyer Referral. Members have the opportunity to participate in the Lawyer Referral and Information Services program where the Association directs potential clients to attorneys with experience in an area of practice. Bar Office. The GCBA Neithercut Conference Room seats 12-16 comfortably and is free to members for meetings, depositions, mediations and arbitration hearings.

Professional Human Capital. Reduced rates for management of payroll and related taxes for members and their employees. Services provided for deposit, dental insurance, malpractice insurance, a 401(k) plan, an employee assistance program and much more. [Click Here ]

Mailing Labels. Members can purchase mailing labels of GCBA members at a reasonable rate. Labels are not sold to the public.

CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION

Monthly Luncheons. Members are invited to our monthly luncheons featuring informative speakers on current issues. [Click Here]

CLE. The estate of former Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Louis MacGregor left a bequest for members to attend seminars in continuing education to the Genesee County Bar Foundation. Thus, the GCBA offers many seminars at reduced rates.

Specialized Classes. Committees host specialized training seminars in many areas of interest.

FUN SOCIAL INTERACTION

Golf Outing. The Annual Golf Outing helps to financially support the Association, to provide opportunities for members to socialize and to develop working relationships with the Bench and Bar.

GCBA 5K Run for the BAR. An annual run and walk race held during the summer. The race is held in downtown Flint and is a Crim Training Program sponsored race.

Other Events. The Association regularly sponsors other social and networking events held at locations such as the Flint Institute of Arts, Sloan Museum, Flint Children’s Museum and Comerica Park. The GCBA also hosts a bi-annual swearing in ceremony at the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY

Law Day. A full month of activities surround Law Day, officially celebrated May 1^st of each year. Activities include Mock Trials for high school students, a poster contest for elementary students, a Law Day luncheon and other career and law-related educational activities.

Annual Community Holiday Dinner. The Holiday Dinner provides a hot meal and children’s gifts for the less fortunate in our community. Each year the GCBA members and their families serves between 800-900 guests.

Senior Outreach. In partnership with Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, attorney volunteers provide free legal advice to local senior citizens.

Teens & The Law. Attorneys visit local high schools and advise students on applicable and practical aspects of the law.

Nursing Home and Hospice Program. In collaboration with Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, volunteer attorneys draft medical papers, durable power of attorney papers and simple wills for senior citizens who reside in nursing homes or hospice facilities, living at or below 125% of poverty.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES - [Click for Application]

Sustaining Member. Open to attorneys in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan who generously provide support to the GCBA in addition to their regular membership dues. Membership includes free lunches to the Monthly Membership Meetings.

Regular Member. Open to practicing attorneys in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan practicing for five or more years.

New Admittee Member. Open to attorneys in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan practicing five years or less.

Associate Member. Open to attorneys in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan who are not engaged in the practice of law for compensation in the last year and will not practice law for compensation in the forthcoming year.

Law Student Member. Open to law school students, upon submission of evidence of good standing who attend an accredited law school in Michigan.

Honorary Member. Free to members who have been a continual member of the association for forty years or more and have reached the age of seventy.
